During the flooding of the Danube in 1954, the water broke through the levees at several points. Notwithstanding the Party and government’s call of mobilization, Almásfüzitő, Ásványráró, Győr, Madocsa, Révfalu and the entire Szigetköz region were covered in water. Budapest, Baja and Mohács were spared. In this archival film, “soldiers of the People’s Army and the brave sons of our working people came from all over the country to fight the deluge”, and save whatever could still be saved. Is your grandfather or grandmother among the flood fighters in the film? Do you recognize anyone?
