OSA Archivum and NAVA (National Audiovisual Archives)
are holding a press-event where István Rév, (Director of OSA Archivum) and Dávid Kitzinger (Managing Director of NAVA)
discuss OSA's recenly launched 1989 web site

March 5, 2009 - 10 am.
OSA Archívum - 1051, Arany J. u. 32.

The whole event emerges from a unique initiative by OSA: the launching of a new web page commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Transition in 1989. Neuman Kht joined the OSA initiative by providing about 4000 news excerpts from 1989 for the web page.

This cooperation is an experiment aimed at making Hungarian archives more open and better known. Such an open, thematic collection is being created day-by-day as the virtual walls of the participating institutions disappear. The documents are in the center of attention; as such they provide a very special interpretation of our recent past. The documents, created for different purposes, are stored in various places and may be hard to get hold of, but making them accessible via the internet opens up new horizons. This cooperation between archives is as fresh as the publicity given to the documented Transition itself.

Topics to be discussed:
- The access policy of Hungarian Archives
- The effects of internet publicity on dust-covered documents
- Is popularity suspicious? Public use, public contribution, the active public.
