The effects of nuclear weaponsNuclear weapons constitute the core of Soviet military might. Even the smallest among them have awesome destructive power. Depending on the location of detonation, we distinguish between ground-surface, air, atmospheric and underground explosions. Their destructive power derives from the release of energy created in nuclear fission. The greatest damage immediately after the explosion is caused by the shock wave, which is followed by the deadly effects of powerful electromagnetic and nuclear radiation.
