Chemical weaponsPoisonous substances have been used in hunting and warfare since prehistoric times. This was no different in the twentieth century, either: people took advantage of the advances in organic chemistry by using poisonous gases on the battlefields, for example, in the interest of delivering a swift and effective blow to the enemy. These substances were then also used in the death camps. Technological developments eventually led to the invention of nuclear bomb, as well as to the space travel of the first astronaut. This extremely rapid scientific progress teaches caution to the countries of the socialist bloc, as NATO is in possession of these technologies and presumably will not hesitate to use them, if need be. Just as they did at the end of the Second World War.
