HU OSA 300-8 Publications Department, 1950-1994

The subfonds contains periodical and non-periodical publications produced by the respective national units and other units of Radio Free Europe (RFE) and Radio Liberty (RL), both for the employees of the Radios and for external use. Included are day-by-day monthly lists of forthcoming events and anniversaries of internal affairs. Of particular value are the publications from the early fifties, such as Reports on Poland from 1951-1953, Magyarországi Események (Events in Hungary) from 1950-1956, and Magyarországi Hírek (News of Hungary) from 1955.

HU OSA 300-8-3 Background Reports, 1956-1989

Background Reports prepared for the use of the staff of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty were written on an ad hoc, irregular basis on East-West political relations, the Committee of Mutual Economic Assistance, East-West trade and finance, the Warsaw Pact, and general ideology as well as on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

HU OSA 300-8-52 Weekly Information Letter, 1953-1959

The Weekly Information Letter was published between 1 January 1953 and 17 July 1959 and can be regarded as the forerunner to the Situation Reports. It was compiled by the national Evaluators of the News and Information Service, RFE, and issued once a week. The Letter contained reports and assessments about developments in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Extensive is the information related to Agriculture, Armed forces, Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, Political Parties and Opposition and biographies of Czechoslovak personalities. The events of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution were monitored closely.
