A device that was able to image the distribution of radiotracers within an animal or human was invented. Taylor visualized a spaceship propelled by atomic bombs. The Anger Camera
Hal O. Anger developed the gamma camera (also known as scintillation, or Anger camera). This remarkable device is able to follow the motion of radioactive materials within its field of view. With the development of the gamma camera came the ability in live time, to image, the blood flow in a patient, watch the kidneys function, examine the liver as it generates bile and actually watch the thyroid concentrate a mock iodine. Leninskiy Komsomol
The first Soviet nuclear powered submarine Leninskiy Komsomol was launched.
A serious accident occurred during near the town of Kyshtym in the Urals. The design defects of the nuclear liquid waste storage reservoirs led to radiation overheating of a tank followed by an explosion of nitrate-acetate salts contained in it. Three Mile Island Accident
